Summary
Because this is a First Grade classroom, the students need technology that allows them to interact and learn simultaneously. One of the best ways to accomplish this is through a SmartBoard. With the use of a projector, the board uses touch-technology and is designed to let up to two people work on the board at once. In a first grade class, the board can be used for spelling, reading, math and shapes. The students will become more involved in the lesson and it will help engage the entire class. Windows 7 and Kidspiration are software that will be used on the current computers. These software packages allow the students to become more familiar with computers and how basic programs work. Kidspiration is a program that kids can use to further understand shapes, numbers and words. Teachers can also use it to plan lessons and create diagrams. Because the classroom only has five computers, the ten netbooks would allow even more students to have access to the web. With having ten computers, the teacher can work with small groups to help maximize focus. The printer and scanner are so that the teacher can easily print out handouts or scan in an image to put on the screen. The DVD player allows the teacher to play movies for the class, a way to include visual and auditory learners into the lesson. The digital camera is a way for the teacher to document things that are going on during the year, so that the kids can look back on their days at the end of the year. The Ipod is so the teacher can play music throughout the classroom. It is proven that music can help students concentrate and relax in the classroom which may improve their learning and concentration. The benefits of this technology are overwhelming and would make the classroom much more effective and enjoyable for the students and the teacher.
